The Accounting Manager will oversee critical accounting operations and financial management functions to ensure accurate financial reporting, operational efficiency, and compliance across the organization. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional with experience in the construction and/or utility-scale solar industry, strong leadership capabilities, and expertise in job costing, Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, and contractor-related accounting practices.

The Accounting Manager will oversee critical accounting operations and financial management functions to ensure accurate financial reporting, operational efficiency, and compliance across the organization. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional with experience in the construction and/or utility-scale solar industry, strong leadership capabilities, and expertise in job costing, Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, and contractor-related accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare, review, and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, job cost reporting, and project profitability analysis.
- Support the preparation of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and management reporting packages.
- Monitor and manage company cash flow, cash reserves, debt obligations, and short- and long-term cash forecasting to support operational and growth objectives.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Oversee multi-state sales and use tax compliance, including accurate preparation and timely filing requirements.
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, banking institutions, and other third-party professionals.
- Identify and implement process improvements, internal controls, and accounting best practices to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules, including tracking asset purchases, transfers, and disposals.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership, training, and guidance to the accounting team while supporting cross-functional collaboration with operations and project management teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the construction, EPC, or renewable energy industry.
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and construction billing processes, including AIA billing and lien waivers.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting software such as Sage 300, Procore, Viewpoint, or similar systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and leadership levels.
- Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing accounting teams
